About Me

Hi I’m John Beynon and this is my blog.
I work for Monochrome in Epsom, Surrey who are leaders in building RIA applications – and we have a lot of fun doing so! I work in the Web Application development team until recently programming in ColdFusion but now moving over to Ruby on Rails almost exclusively. I’m also our Systems Administrator looking after our hosting infrastructure so I’m pretty up to speed with all things server related as well as being pretty into Virtualisation.
Previously I worked for the Berkeley Group (up to Dec 2007) as their ColdFusion Developer building numerous websites for various developments they build as well as a pretty large intranet deployment used across all their sites and operating companies.
Before the Berkeley Group I worked for ERA Technology, where I first used ColdFusion and self taught myself various Microsoft Windows Exams whilst on a year placement from my degree (Materials Science and Engineering at Swansea University) and returned to work there following the completion of my degree in 1999.
I’ve been a Microsoft Certified Professional since 1999 for Windows NT (a little outdated these days) but more recently an Adobe Certified Expert for ColdFusion and a Google Analytics Certified individual.
Outside of work, I’m married to Marie and we live in Guildford, Surrey and haveĀ a daugter named Louisa. We have two cats named Daisy and Dougal (after the magic roundabout, Dougal sadly died in January 2010). I’m a keen sailor, both full size (Dinghies and Yachts) and also very into Model Yachting but also spend a fair amount of time flying Radio Control Helicopters.
