iPhone 3.0 bugs
So here are details of two bugs I’ve found so far;
In the Camera application in the bottom left corner is (I guess) your latest picture in your Camera Roll except the picture I’m being shown is about 6 pictures ago and not updating.
I sync my iPhone to my iMac at home but as is often the case when I arrive at the office my battery is flat so need to charge. Usually I’ll have listened to podcasts on the way into way, perhaps finishing some and perhaps part way through another, what I’m finding is that if i plugin to my MacBook to charge then the play position is being lost as well as the play counts on podcasts I may have already listened to so when I return home they are not being auto deleted as having been listened to.
Any one else found anything odd so far?

I find that the biggest bug, is the 3.0 update itself. Touted and hyped as a revolutionary update, it seems it is only so IF you are planning on buying the iPhone 3G S. Regular 3G users will get the wondrous ‘Audio Recording’ App…but now Video Recording App. Even the Photo Camera is not able to have the simple ZOOM feature… available in every other camera phone app. Even the Voice Recognition is only available for 3G S. While I see the money making agenda here, making you purchase another phone to get them (no known upgrades here), I do not see why these basic features of other phones are not present with such a “revolutionary” phone like an iPhone. I mean even video is STILL only available from YouTube (Flash)…. why no other?????
Thanks for the copy and paste…. but as for 3.0… if you have a basic 3G, you are getting all the bugs.. simply by being screwed.
try starting a text message… leaving the app using the home key and going directly to home… then going back to the text app… you no longer are sent to the last text you were working on but rather to the text message list.
I have noticed a BIG problem. now maybe it’s just me, but i never noticed this before.
when I have the iphone in my pocket while i’m walking and it moves to the next track (I’m pretty sure it just goes to the next one), and the shuffle symbol (the two intersecting arrows) comes on.
This has only happened since yesterday’s update. Before this, I always kept it in my pocket and listened to music as I walked.
For those with Stereo BT Headsets (i.e. Moto S9) the forward and/or back buttons work. All the other buttons work great, but not those two.
I have found a strange “phenomenon” (not sure if it is a bug though).
My fav track “wepon of mass destruction – by crystal method” sounds totally different after i upgraded to version 3
Is anyone else haveing similar problems with tracks?
I have had the same problem with remembering the play position of my podcasts, and completed podcasts are not deleted either.
One bug they have not fixed since I have been using the phone is … rotating the phone when listening to a podcast, it switches to cover flow of you albums NOT of you podcasts!!
Don’t forget the LIMITED controls you get in cover flow (play/pause)?!
Hi Jim – that will be the ’shake to shuffle’ option that has been added, it can be disabled by going to Settings >Ipod and it’s the top setting.
Over here in the UK, we’ve got a big problem.
Excuse the non-techie terminology but myself and three friends who have updated with 3.0 yesterday can no longer get the ‘big’ button to work.
So once you’ve started an app, the only way out is reboot the phone.
Here’s hoping a fix will be made available soon.
For now, it’s back to my old BlackBerry.
no, they changed the method to perform a force quit because the home button now takes you to Spotlight.
Hold down your top (power) button until the red slide appears on screen then hold down the home (big) button at the bottom and the app will quit in a few seconds.

Anyone have a problem with icons? im using 3.0 on the new 3GS phone and about 5 of my apps have the wrong icon matched to it. Its really weird. A reboot/re-spring didnt fix it.
Another problem with 3.0. the iPhone 3G takes ages to load apps once it hooked it up with Internet. for example it takes 5 seconds to load a contact, moving from left to right takes more than 1 second. any one who has the same problem?
Double keyboards in email anyone? It appears both the landscape keyboard (long keyboard) and the portrait (short keyboard) are stacked on top of each other–one half covering the other. In portrait mode, I can type on the short keyboard, but I the QWERTY row does not type. In long mode, all the keys work on the long kybd, but because part of the keys are covered by the other short kybd it is difficult to type on the ZXCVB row.
Just to clarify my last entry regarding double keyboards, I experienced the problem in the Mail program only. I have since Force Quit the program (by holding the sleep button, followed by holding the Home button) and that fixed the issue.
….all my contacts and names are gone. Also I can’t access the internet or emails.
SMS’ being sent as MMS when sending to multiple receivers.
3g data stays on sometimes even when wifi is available, only way to fix this is to turn off wifi and turn back on.
Also, no way to see if 1 or more sms messages are being sent (i.e. no characters left displayed).
No way to choose between sms and mms (mms is great for long messages 1000 characters)
Usage under settings is useless as it does not display outgoing calls and number of sms and mms sent.
Voice memos sync to music folder in itunes, they should have their own folder or at least sync to audiobooks folder
and another one…. e-mails are not being deleted even when removed from the trash folder, e-mails can be easily looked up using the spotlight search function, this is a major security flaw
I was putting an underscore in the titles of my most commonly used playlists so they’d appear at the top of the lists of playlists. But now in 3.0, they appear at the bottom. They are still at the top in iTunes, however.
Is there a way to order playlists that is not alphabetic?
What I’d really like is support of folders for playlists and podcasts. iTunes is so weak on the ability to organize audio.
Startup and shutdown of the iPhone is now slower after the 3.0 update. Also, when powering on the phone, after the Apple logo is displayed for some time, the screen goes black for a few seconds before the phone turns on. And after the phone is on, you are no longer taken directly to the home screen, but to the “Slide to unlock” screen.
Another thing that I’ve noticed is that the App Store seems more sluggish. Perhaps this is because so many people are now using it to update apps that have been recently updated for the 3.0 firmware. I don’t know. But since installing the 3.0 firmware, accessing the App Store isn’t as snappy as it once was.
Not to start any conspiracy theories here, but what if the slower startup/shutdown and slower load times of apps is an intentional plan by Apple to force those of us with older iPhones to purchase the newer 3G S in order to “resolve” these issues?
A bug I’ve found is that if you have a contact with phone number (YYY) XXX-XXXX, and you type XXX-XXXX to dial it, it doesn’t show who’s contact you’re calling, as it used to show.
Now it only matches a contact if you type the whole number (YYY) XXX-XXXX.
Spotlight search seems to find emails that have been deleted. When I hit the email, it sometimes takes me to an email that will read “1 of 0.” Anyone else finding anomalies with Spotlight Search? (Would also be great if there were a way to turn it off completely.)
Second time I’ve not been able to increase volume – seems to be muted and side switch has no effect, have to reboot phone to fix. Will try and identify exact scenario to repeat behaviour.
I notice when I use AIM and I go to IM someone, you do not see the text as you type it, the window is gone.
Does anyone know of a headset which allows for play of the iPod? I wear a Plantronics 520 bluetooth headset most of the time — never been a big fan of its functionality, but that’s another story. Would love to have a bluetooth headset which would support (be supported by?) the iPod on the 3G S so I don’t have to also carry a set of buds/ another headset.

When will you see the option for sending pictures mms? I do not see that option.
On my iPhone 3G unit, after downloading the new 3.0 software, most apps when pressed do not load and simply default back to the manin menu – THIS SUCKS !! is Apple now becoming like Microsoft in releasing buggy software ? GOD HELP US ALL. (But then again, there is no god, right?)
After updating to 3.0, has anyone had the problem of their Mail shutting down in the middle of the “checking for mail” phase of the process? I can get about 12-15 seconds of Mail action (“connecting”, “checking for mail” and even a second or two when it says “downloading xx messages”) before it just shuts down and goes back to the home screen.
@TomM – there’s no option – it will send a message as MMS if you take a picture – it’s all been rolled into the Messages application.
hey.when you go into settings and hit the “mail, calander , contacts” and then scroll down, my screen hangs half way and then it quits to the home screen.anyone with that problem too?thanks
@Julie – yes having the same problem with mail.
1) My Jabra BT 8010 worked on the first try with the upgrade, so I no longer needed a Bluetooth dongle to listen to iPod audio. This headset supports the Bluetooth A2DP protocol for audio/stereo.
2)My previous Plantronics Discovery 920 did not, so I got the Jabra
3)Since my upgrade to 3.0 yesterday, though, I notice that the audio will periodically become garbled for about 5 seconds, then spontaneously normalize. It’s similar to what the audio does if the headset and iPhone are too far away, except it happens when they are 3 feet away. I mention it in case others notice, too.
4)I now have many spaces, including a page of apps with only one app on it since the upgrade, and I’m too lazy to manually consolidate and move them. I suspect there is a trick I don’t know about…
A big problem I have come across is my top line of keyboard isnt working in any app!! Also some app’s such as Beejive are auto typeing random letters. Has anyone else come acroos these problems?

I have updated my 2g iphone to the new version 3 and do not have all the functions as advertised, particulary the mms and bluetooth, could anyone please help me solve this.

the mms is a sneaky one – you don’t get a new app, the functionality is all rolled into the existing Messages app and of course depends on your carriers support for MMS.
In the uk once it was all setup after I upgraded i received an mms from o2 saying it was all working.

I am also having the problem of Mail shutting down. It is true for both my Macmail and my work account. (Both worked fine with the previous software version.)

can’t say i’m experiencing any problems that are preventing me from using my phone and i’m using multiple mail accounts, exchange syncing etc etc
Messages App takes aloooot longer to load. I’ve even deleted my list except for one person from today. and it still is slow. still haven’t figured out mms, gonna have to find some instructions on that.
After the update, my original iPhone is no longer as bright and the brightness control doesn’t help.
Same problem with AIM. Cannot see window to type.
Cannot access the new photo features (delete more than one; send more than one).
And can someone explain in lay terms when we will get push email as I did on the old treo? Thanks!

Yes , I have same issue.
My only complaint is that the stability of my wifi connection really went down hill after upgrading to 3.0. It takes a lot longer to detect and connect to my own wifi! Sometimes it won’t even register the wifi at all. Hope they fix this soon. Or I might revert back to 2.2.1
It will occassionally start in the middle of a song rather than the beginning when I FF to the next track in the playlist. Also has done this when playing the first selection after tapping “Shuffle.” I have to tap rewind then to get it start the song at the beginning.
Receiving MMS messages from a contact who also sends SMS messages results in two different message threads from the same contact. (Australia).
When using Messages in the landscape mode the received text bubble does not get wider meaning that you need to scroll back to read long messages.
today i downloaded 3.0 to my iphone. now it’s locked/frozen and there’s nothing i can do. it worked fine before. clearly this update caused the problem. my iphone is the second generation (non 3G). this new update is not only worthless it ruined my phone. two geniuses a the apple store couldn’t even wipe it cause it is locked. the manager at the apple store told me the best they can do is sell me a new phone. I paid $400 for this one! i’m not done dealing with them yet.
RE: MAIL SHUTTING DOWN
Hi All – for those of you who have (had) problems with the mail shutting down before pushing messages to your phone after updating to 3.0 – I finally spoke with an Apple Expert on the phone and we deleted my mail account and re set it up. It has made all the difference. (as an aside, since this mail problem which coincided with the update, the battery on my phone wasn’t holding the charge for more than 3-4 hours and the phone was constantly hot. And now that mail is fixed – so is the battery issue). So just go into Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> your email account(s) and then “Delete Account”. Make sure to take note of how everything was set up before you delete it (i forgot a few line items and had to refer to my husband’s phone to get it back up and running).
Hope that works for any of you having mail problems.
when going into recent call, it only shows numbers,not contacts. if all your calls were from your contact list,still shows numbers,no names. but if you go to add to existing contact for one number,they all change back to your contacts. strange. anyone else?
We saw that but rebooting the phone fixed the problem.
After upgrading to 3.0 I found that all my poscasts but three were gone and I had 7 groups of my main podcast and inside each was 1, 2 or 3 of the repeating 3 poscasts. Tried unsubscribing resync and subscribe again but no luck on fixing issue.
Double emails being displayed in email app. Making any changes at all to the email account results in the double emails issue resolving itself for about 3 days then the problem returns.
In “Messages”, the text field, in which you can write something, stays big, after deleting some lines.
And if you write a long message, the message field gets so big, that you are not able to see the older messages anymore!
In “Search”, some E-Mails in the “Mail” app can not be found if i try to search for a certain name.
Sometimes i get one and a half sounds instead of only 1, when i receive new text messages
The whole iPhone gets slow sometimes and needs a restart before being able to work properly again.
1. If you write a long message, the message field gets so big, that you are not able to see the older messages anymore.
2. Where’s the 10% battery warning!

Yes!! I’m having the same problem. Seems to be only songs encoded in VBR. I’ve had other MP3 players that had problems with VBR encoded files, but never the iPhone (until 3.0 that is)
Here is another annoyance:
If you have an Exchange account configured, you CANNOT turn off autolock!
Here is something cool, though:
You can configure push email for more folders than just the Inbox, meaning thosed folders are always in sync on your phone. I thought that was pretty slick.
When I upgraded, all these crappy bugs happened to my phone:
1. SMS were delayed.
2. When people call me, they say my phone is out of reach even though it is ON everday and has a signal 24/7. Sometimes, the call gets in but most of the time, NOT.
3. Battery drains in a couple of hours. Before, it usually lasts for a whole day.
4. The back portion gets hot when I charge it.
after upgrade my iphone in the ipod application when i want to rate the song sometimes appears other songs like the last one i rate, many bugs just in the ipod application.
the battery icon in moments is green and full but in a few minutes is red and empty and thats weird.
My Home button is not working AT ALL. This only started after I upgraded to 3.0….any help?
I got some thing odd and my mate has it also.
i had his number stored as +61 423 *** *** but after upgrade i got a message from him as 61 423 *** ***. The iphone could not differentiate between the two. Now when he messages me it isnt always from the same number it could be from either… so essentially i have two numbers saved under ‘brad’ (they are the same number relly just one without the + in the area code) and when i receive a message from brad it will be from one of those numbers but not necisarily the one I sent it to… it just seems random.
I realise i just took a large amout of rambling to outline my problem but it was hard to describe :S thanks for your patience

When I get a new SMS it takes FOREVER to display the message. Really annoying. The whole phone seems a lot slower overall. Everything lags
When using 3.0 “search” looking for songs or other info, old deleted emails with same words in subject or message show up. Emails had been deleted via “trash” and had been purged from the server. Hundreds of emails were listed, some over a year old. There is no way known to get rid of them. Apple store reps were no help.
I demonstrated this bug to several other iPhone owners and they too were surprised to see months old deleted emails appear. I read one report that referred to them as Zombie emails and that they are somewhere in the iPhone probably using up memory.
MAJOR BUG!!!
I updated my Iphone 2g to 3.0 and the phone keeps thinking that it has headphones in even though it doesnt. just updated from 2.21 and everything was working fine
yes, i got the same problem as you guys, eversince the iphone its upgrade.
1. iphone batt goes flat within few hours.
2. it get extremely hot when charging from computer.
3. cant get thru calls
4. camera applications hang after taking 1 pic each time.
5. whenever ipod/safari used, the iphone gets hot as well.
any idea how to fix this?
I found that when you have the “push” feature active for email the battery drain is significant (like you redline in 2 hours or less). Also the battery gets hot. If you leave email in the “fetch” setting the battery drain goes away. Anyone else notice that?
I installed the 3.0 on my 2g and now when I try to write a note it won’t save and it won’t open old notes. Also, when I try to hang up a phone call the screen goes black and the call stays on until the other person hangs up. Very annoying as I use the phone for business. It also seems generally sluggish.
How do I reinstall 2.21?
I upgraded to 3.0 a few weeks ago and today I cannot open any 3rd party apps. This seems to be a bug in the 2.0.1 version but why hasn’t it been fixed? If there are any solutions other than resetting the entire phone please let me know!
Guys, I really need help. I’ve got 3g, 16 gb, jailbroken and unlocked. After installing boss pref, the iphone is hanged. Meaning, I try to start it, but only get the apple logo! And Itunes doesn’t pick it up, so I can restore the firmware. Can you help? I can’t do anything with my iphone. Is there a way of erasing disk/firmware and reinstall it, so that it comes to life again??? many thanks
if you jailbreak then you must have big balls!! It’s not something I’ve ever considered since the App Store came into existence..the risk far out ways the benefit for me!
Since upgrading to 3.0, I keep getting a network connection error message pop-up on my screne that just will not go away. It probably repeats 7 or 8 times before I get the better of it. I’m not that fussed about 3.0 for the iPhone. Happy just going back to 2.0 and escaping those error message but if there’s an easier way, would appreciate the advice…

I found that doing general > reset > reset network settings has worked a treat!!
for me on my 3g when i updated to 3.0 ive noticed that the apple headset no longer works, Ive tried multiple sets and they will play music but the mic doesnt work nor does the pause button
there are no risks to jailbreaking at all!! the risk is downloading things you dont know about.. just like any computer, Jailbreaking is completely worth it!!
I cannot play videos anymore using the net. All the videos on YouTube now have that line thru them to show that they can’t be played. It’s crap. Also the bars on my wireless connection are always low!
