Great post! I've only been looking into Stax and the whole cloud deployment thing for the past hour so it's still all rather confusing to fully grasp the concept.

However, just thinking about it would it be possible to build a reusable file write module that would integrate into the S3 service? So you could essentially replace the file write functions of your various applications so they write to the cloud (Mangoblog / Mura plugin etc)..

I'm probably misinterpreting things but that would make sense if possible.

You raise great points about how cloud architectures like Stax are good stateless service-oriented application architectures, but are problematic for existing apps.

I'm anxious to see how the debate evolves around whether app developers are better off tweaking their architectures to become stateless (at least on the server) so they can leverage the elastic and smart-routing flexibility offered by cloud deployments, or whether clouds are better off sacrificing application deployment flexibility and adapting to the way apps are built today.

Anyone looking for a invitation can send me a message on the Stax Developer Community site:

Spike Washburn (formerly in charge of CF engineering team back in Macromedia days) = EC2 licensing. I think you just answered your question.

One thing John didn't say that we were talking about whilst discussing EC2 was good old EC2 licensing. I'm hoping we'll get a rule to stick to from Adobe on this soon.

Very interesting. Are you allowed/able to configure the jrun.xml file if using a dedicated server?

I was JUST looking into this exact thing, thanks for the post! I too was pondering the file storage and S3. Looking forward to your next blog post.
