CF License Calculator

I’m no Flex developer but working in an office full of Flex developers is sometimes handy. So with the confusion of the EULA changes in ColdFusion I thought I’d whip up a quick (very) Flex app which makes things easy for you to calculate the number of boxes you need to buy.

DISCLAIMER: This is mean as indicative only, you should consult with your Adobe rep to ensure you are running within EULA terms.

NOTE: CPU count is based on PHYSICAL processors not the core count.

NOTE: The calculator has now moved here

  1. John, unfortunately the Flash file isn’t loading or initialising for me in IE7. It works okay in FF2.

Bugette – If version=Ent & CPUs=odd number then cost includes half the retail price of a full license. (Needs to round cost up to the nearest even number of licenses)

Good tool, it really does help clarify the new EULA. Now, if it can include a discount calculator and the website of the cheapest dealer… ;-)

  2. fixed and fixed :)

  3. I’ve sent Jason D an email trying to work out what the EC2 costs might be (as you don’t know how many CPU’s you’re on). Once I have the answer, I’ll let you know so you can factor this in as an option.

  4. Hi John – Not sure if you need to account for this, but if you have CF Enterprise installed on one CPU few physical machine, and have two physical machines, I believe you still need to purchase two licenses (that’s not my situation, but it was how Adobe answered it for me on behalf of a CF User Group member). That is two CPUs, but would also necessitate two licenses.

Please let me know if your research finds differently.

    Cheers,

    David

  5. yeah, i’d pretty much say that was given. I don’t know of any bundled software that would could do that with, eg MS SMall Business contains, SQL, Exchange, Proxy but you HAVE to run them all on the same box. I thought about the whole multi server thing, maybe that’ll be in the next iteration :)

  6. That link just redirects back to this blog entry…?

  7. corrected the link – it was a blogCFC link but i’m sure you worked that out :)
