iPod Touch 1.1.3 bug updates

Apple Add comments

At last Apple have finally fixed the default ‘Top 25 Most Played’ playlist so it shows what you expect it to show in iTunes and on the iPod touch. They have not however fixed the duplicate album name bug that i reported a few months back. Still no way to view podcast show notes either.

I can only think that the whole charging for the ‘January Software Update’ is to make sure that the deployment methods for apps built via the February SDK works correctly. After doing the 1.1.3 update I did buy the software update and rather than seeing a download on clicking ‘BUY’ it flashed upa message on the iPod screen - so merely unlocking code in the 1.1.3 update. The Mail application is worth £12.99 to me along with the Notes app. Anyhow, my iPod touch is feeling less like a Ferrari with a Ford Focus engine now as Apple really begin to unharness the power of this thing (minus the phone of course)

I love the £12.99 update as well, Google Maps is total geniuse for me, and mail app is really nice. If the future updates have got this quality of application being built i’m in for £12.99 every every few months as a treat to for myself. Only one thing for me, and thats the grey iPhone like docking bar, not nice, remeber Apple ‘Glass is Class’, the iPod is class, the iPhone is, well, not as class.

I updated my ipod last night to software version 1.1.3, but itunes did not ask for payment of the £13/$20 and the update did not include any of the updated functions being talked about on
the apple website. I’m in the UK so I presume that the functional updates such as google mail and maps etc. are not available here yet? Has anyone else had this problem?

if you go to the Apple Itunes store in one of the middle pods is a "January Update" which is where the apps come from - buy it through Itunes, then resync and it’ll appear on the ipod.

  4. Kay Says:

I have just purchased the "January Update" from iTune store but what happen if I reformat my iPod and update to 1.1.3 again will i have to buy the update again?

  5. Maxx Says:

I upgraded to the 1.1.3 firmware update before I bought the Software Upgrade.
That seemed to work fine, but once I’d purchased the Upgrade, nothing had changed.
I’ve rebooted my iPod, reinstalled iTunes, synced too many times to count and still nothing.
I’ve even just formatted it in a last resort attempt at some sort of miracle.
Alas, nothing. I have no apps, iTunes warns me that I’ve already bought the upgrade when I try to buy it again.

And now I miss my music..

    Can anyone help?

How annoying that I found the solution soon after posting.

I apologise for posting twice, but hopefully this may offer some solution to someone.

When I download the 1.1.3 firmware and then bought the upgrade, I was using a computer to which my iPod was not automatically synced. (This is because my laptop decided it didn’t like it’s graphics card anymore, and chose to destroy it..damn you Dell).

After formatting my iPod Touch (still on this computer), I decided I had nothing to lose by setting it to automatically sync to this computers library instead of my own.

    HUZZAH
It worked, my iPod had a bunch of lovely new apps and a little window explaining how to move them around.

    Never been so relieved :)
Now to get my laptop repaired and get my music back
    Hope this helps someone

Yeh i had the same problem, annoying having to format all your music for the
update. I love Apple’s updates but it is cheek to ask its existing customers
who own Ipod Touches to pay money for a update which is standard in the new
ones? that shows a lot of loyalty to us :-(

  8. jonjo Says:

Thankyou SO MUCH. I also bought the software and was dispointed, i am now letting it sync all my music, automatically, lets hope it works, ur a legend mate, thankyou!

  9. jonjo Says:

hey again, please help, I have "unticked" manually sync music, and its synced all my library stuff but still no new apps, do i need to restore again !?!?!
or is there an option on "automatically sync music" somewhere?
    please reply!!!!!

No chance am I buying the update! £12.99 over here in UK. Considering there are a lot of ‘MS converts’ with iPods (this being my first journey into Apple-land) it hasn’t left me feeling very good about it.
Put it this way: if MS charged for functionality at this level, everyone would be shouting at them. I’m used to this sort of update being free. Come on, Apple - play the game.

First off for those having trouble getting the apps on to their IPT. This is what I did, ‘Checked For Update’ via iTunes, it then downloaded the update and applied it to the iPod. No need to click restore, no need to retransfer music from iTunes to iPod touch. If you use the restore option it does trash the ipod and retransfer but a normal update does not do this. Once my IPT was (Freely!) upgraded to 1.1.3 I went to the store and found the ‘January Update’ which unlocks the apps - bought it, it then did another sync and the icons appeared.

I don’t mind paying for it as its new additional stuff - just as i won’t mind paying for the 3rd party apps once they start appearing in February/March. Reading the press about the whole ‘paying’ for the update it appears that it could be down to some funny American business law, Sarbanes-Oxley that Apple have been in hot water before over. If you’ve only just bought your IPT then (like Amazon) don’t forget they have a 30 day money back guarantee so return it and get the new one if you’re that worried over $20/£12.99

I had the same problems as those listed above. It turned out that you need to update itunes to the current version before updating the ipod; older versions of itunes will update the ipod firmwear to 1.1.3 but won’t install all the little applications on your ipod. I paid for the update and I’m not going to get grumpy about it. I have my home screen full of web shortcuts now and it looks great.

  13. sillystu Says:

i have opened the window in the itunes store and clicked ok at the bottom, nothing happens exept it flicks back to the home page. Can anyone help me?

  14. Gregger Says:

    Same here
    Touch and iTunes upto date

Click th OK button and nothing happens, directed back to the home page.

If I switch to automatic sync then all my music will be re copied wont it?
    and I dont want that

  15. Ben Says:

problems on my ipod touch , ive updated to 1.1.3 it says its updated but i do not have any features , example , the home screen modify thing and the safari bookmark thing none of them work on mine they do not even show up any ideas why this is?

  16. itty Says:

if i download the apps on my i pod but then restore my i touch will i lose the app
    apps?

  17. tom Says:

you dont have to pay to update but you have to pay to unlock the apps.
in other words, you already have them on your ipod but you need to pay to be able to use them…
i got it the first day it came out and i live in the uk…

  18. BadMike Says:

I hate the £12.99 I have paid for this software, if you live in America I am sure everything is fine, however I live in the UK and I am not happy.

    1. The mail client does not support SPA authenication so I cannot send emails via my SMTP server
    2. The Weather will not find Timisoara in Romania, even though Yahoo Weather (accessed from the Touch does)
    3. Maps, always defaults to USA locations, Google defaults to UK when you are in the UK, I really hate this bug
    4. Stocks, the trading history is very hit and miss, sometimes works sometimes doesn’t

Over all this appears rushed out to me and non USA countries are not handled well, I want my money back.
