Aptana - where have you been all my life?

general Add comments

Am i the last person to discover Aptana - built by the guy that wrote JRun, Paul Colton, Aptana is an Eclipse plugin for making web applications. From the site; “The Aptana IDE is a free, open-source, cross-platform, JavaScript-focused development environment for building Ajax applications. It features code assist on JavaScript, HTML, and CSS languages, FTP/SFTP support and a JavaScript debugger to troubleshoot your code”….I thoroughly recommend you check it out or watch some of the videos of it in action at www.aptana.tv

Have you tried JSEclipse for the JS support?

    A comparison would be interesting…

    Hi there,

Aptana has been out for quite some time now, but still I find it to be somewhat underdeveloped as an IDE for cross language web development.

In my opinion the Eclipse Web Tools Platform is just as good (if not slightly better) in that it offers much of what Aptana does. Have you given this a try yet.

If you are not completely satisified with its default bundle then you can always add Apatana at a later date.

Make sure you try out the all in one WTP package (a bit bulky, but worth it) this encompasses all the requirements for WTP under Eclispe.

See here for more details of the all in one package:
