With all the interest in the recent rip off of BlogCFC i’d just like to publically thank Ray for all the work he’s done for all of us over the years - I for one have bought from Ray’s wishlist (for him obivously :)) in appreciation of the work he’s done and the tools/knowledge he’s shared and would encourage anyone else using any of his apps to do the same…..thanks Ray! Here’s hoping this little ‘hiccup’ won’t prevent the honest amoungst us benefiting from the Jedi Master!
Seems like leaving work late I still managed to miss the announcement of the Intel powered laptops and iMac’s - boy do they look sweet, see the new line up here shipping in February.
Some great news emerging from the MacWorld keynote happening right now:
- Awesome figures on sales and units shipped of iPods - 42 millions units shipped, 32 million shipped in 2005. iTunes has 83% market share. 8 millions TV shows downloaded since debut. 850 millions songs sold via iTunes
- At last an inline remote control for the iPod video - this has been high on peoples criticism list of the new iPod video which doesn’t have a remote connector like previous generations next to the headphone jack - the new accessory also brings an FM receiver to the iPod.
- Mac OS X 10.4.4 available immediately
- iPhoto now features ‘PhotoCasting’ for sharing photos - MAC Only
- Where are the Intel Power Books Steve?
Google have now launched a paid version of video.google.com allowing you to purchase selected TV shows. The free shows are avaiable to download in PC/Mac/iPod/PSP format - great!
Under IIS6 you’ll have a worker process for each application pool defined on your server, ie multiple w3wp.exe listed in task manager. If you’re running each pool as a different identity then it’s pretty easy to identify which worker process belongs to which application pool via the username column, if not - drop into DOS and go to the Windows system32 folder and enter:
cscript iisapp.vbs
And you’ll get an output screen showing you the processID and the application pool that spawned that worker process.
So I’ve got basic MeasureMap logging working, but haven’t figured out placing the tracking code for the Editor/Comments just yet - anyone else got it working yet?
Previously I’d been using a Virtual Server from CFX Hosting to bring you this site - CFMX7 etc but for $230 a month it was always going to be a little hard on the wallet….but now and for the past few weeks I’ve been hosting the site with GoDaddy.com. In fact the package I’m on still seems too good to be true, a Windows 2003 Virtual Server for sub $40 a month…so good in fact I got two, one for IIS and the other for SQL 2005. The package comes with all the usual stuff, RDP access - Plesk Unloaded for a few extra bucks, 500Gb bandwidth, 10Gb of space and so far it’s been well worth the change.
As well as changing hosts I changed the ‘Powered By’ icon in the right bar as I’ve now changed over to running on BlueDragon.NET thanks to guys over at New Atlana. There’s a number of reasons behind the decision to go over to BD.NET primarily I’ve been doing more ASP.NET development - my work is an MS shop at the end of the day! So look out for more reports on my exploits with BlueDragon.NET - I’m really looking forward to playing more this year!
A post I’d starred in my Gmail from the BlueDragon interest mailing list may be useful for others…orginially posted by Paul Bonfati
In 6.2.1 and the August Hotfix for 6.2, you can disable the displaying of the license key by editing bluedragon.xml and adding the following element under the system element:
<display-licensekey>false</display-licensekey>
If you are using BD.NET and have installed BD.NET globally then you’ll want to make this modification to the global bluedragon.xml which is located in the config directory under the installation directory. You’ll need to restart IIS after making this change.
Before the end of last year I changed my mobile phone over to a really neat device, the o2 Mini S - aka the HTC Wizard, T-Mobile Vario, i-Mate K-Jam, Orange SPV3000. It’s a really really neat device, just larger than a cigarette packet it features a slide out QWERTY keyboard (which changes screen orientation to Landscape), Windows Mobile 5.0 (so push email very soon!) and most importantly Wifi. It’s not the most powerful SmartPhone/PocketPC but it runs TomTom GPS just fine and I can RDP into my servers from anywhere - even over a GPRS connection!
Well, 7 days into the New Year and i make my first post - pretty poor huh? Sadly this is not through choice but due to the tragic loss of my partners brother in a car crash in between Christmas and New Year - needless to say it’s been a pretty hectic time and her family has needed my support…but here’s me trying to get back to some normality.
