Fusion Reactor?

ColdFusion Add comments

I keep seeing ads around the web for Fusion Reactor - looks like another SeeFusion product but on heat, reading the feature list I came across this statement:

Use Java 5 with ColdFusion right now. FusionReactor can upgrade your ColdFusion server to use Java 5 and get the most from its increased performance and stability.

Is CF even supported yet on Java 5?

CF will run on Java 5 but there was some issue with web services that had to be addressed. This was back in CF 6 or 7 and 7.01 may have fixed it. I’ll ask.

  2. Michael Dinowitz Says:

After asking other TMM members, the answer is that Java 5 is not supported with CF and will cause certain high end features (such as flash support and web services) to break. The FusionReactor FAQ does not mention the downside of the upgrade to Java 5.

If the upgrade has a downside, isn’t it a downgrade?

  4. Mike Says:

Nope. As always, it’s a feature!

  5. Greg Says:

Just so you know. The Java 5 part of FusionReactor is completely optional and you can switch between that and the default CF JVM at any time you want. It’s really just there as an option.

If you want to use the Java5 install I think the bottom line is: test it first in DEV.

It worked for us, and I guess we’re not the only ones:
