02 back peddles a recent decision over MMS format

02, one of the UKs largest mobile operators has back tracked on a recent decision it took with regards to MMS messages.

Back in July it changed the format of how MMS message were sent. Previously, you were able to send a MMS to an email address whereupon the recipient received a text file containing the message text and a JPG of the attached image. Using CFPOP it was pretty easy to monitor a mail box and process files/images for inclusion as blog entries.

The change 02 implemented no longer delivered the text file/image to the recipient instead a nicely HTML formated email containing a thumbnail and a link to the image which had been sent, meaning the recipient then had to follow the link to retrieve the image - not impossible to retrieve by code but a real pain!

Now one of the guys hosting on my server had this exact problem and gave up on the idea of mobile blogging, but it turns out he wasn’t along and 02 have (or will be) reverting to the old format until a solution can be found. You can read more about it on the BBC website.
