Just listening to the conference call with the senior Adobe/MM figures - turns out 9/11 was the catalyst to bringing the two companies together, deciding that the companies weren’t in direct competion any more and much more complementary products.
Rob Burgess at a recent board meeting said [Adobe and Macromedia] ‘were like twins seperated at birth’.
Current product development will continue as they are currently doing so until the transaction is completed in Fall 2005

I think they’re less releasing that they didn’t have competing products (they had LOTS of them) but rather that specific products dominated their market leaving little marketshare for the competing product, e.g. Dreamweaver has dominated the web development market whereas GoLive has little market share in comparison, the same with Photoshop vs Fireworks, etc. This may be a key to how things progress, we’ll know in a year I guess?

I would like to see Adobe and MM together build a digital signature framework in ColdFusion that can be used for PDF sectional signing.
