Adobe to aquire Macromedia, read more here and here
From the merger FAQ:
What happens to the Macromedia brand?
Adobe recognizes the strong equity of the Macromedia brand. That said, it makes great business sense for a company the size of the combined company to align behind a single corporate brand. Over time, Macromedia products will transition to the Adobe brand. Adobe expects to keep and continue investing in key Macromedia product brands.

I read about this a few moments ago, they may be leaning towards disposing of the macromedia brand, its the way it talks about the adobe board that makes me think this. I fear for Fireworks and ColdFusion.

Macromedia is a brand we care about as developers and designers, I feel that it is a mistake to remove such a well admired brand from the market. I’m not sure that Adobe will treat some of the products, such as ColdFusion with as much respect as they have enjoyed under Macromedia. It doesnt make sense to rebrand! What if Apple was bought and wasnt Apple anymore…. thats how I feel.

the conference call pretty much confirmed it, Macromedia branding will be ditched in favour of Adobe branding, product lines however will remain branded the same - or chopped

Jesus, and the scabs have barely healed on my Macromedia tattoo. At least it’s in katakana so most people won’t be able to read it anyway.

Other companies such as gloxo smithkline and cadburies schewps have managed to keep the two brands within one core name, without losing any of the equity built up in the brand. There is no reason why there can’t be an Adobe Macromedia is there?
