so what’s been happening…

So it’s all been busy in my world recently, i figured it’s about time to bring you up to date.

Firstly outside of work I’ve been spending a lot of time playing with Farcry and to be honest I amaze myself with it’s capabilties the more I play with it. Granted, it’s not the easiest product to grasp but once your happy with creating your own object types or extending existing ones - writing the odd rule to get the data back out then it really is powerful. I was turned off initially by the lack of documentation (aside from farcry.daemon.com.au) but the openness of the product and tweakability (is that a word?) of the code makes it a serious consideration if you’re looking for a CMS at the moment.

Again, outside of work myself and my other half have just sold her 1 bedroom flat and have bought a 4 bedroom house. At last - no more working on the kitchen surface…not too bad with a laptop but when i’ve got a helicopter in bits it’s a pain in the ass sometimes!

At work we’ve finished the master plan for our new ColdFusion7 infrastructure. My plan for 4 new servers has now grown to 6. Two load balanced CF Enterprise servers (each with 2 instances) for our public sites, two load balanced CF Standard boxes for our intranet and two clustered boxes to run the file share accessing dedicated disks on a SAN. The software upgrades have all been ordered, the hardware too so in a few weeks I’ll be posting back with details on how well the migration went and any glitches along the way.
