apologies for the bit of down time, I’ve actually moved over to an entire new server and i inadvertantly changed the DNS entry for my domain to the wrong IP! doh!
Anyway, I’m now on a brand new ColdFusion 7 server, hosted at CFXhosting.com on one of their VPS packages - their new CF7 packages will be limited to 2 VPSs’ per physical server now and 512Mb of memory.

Well I received a lot of interest in my CF Enterprise justification document that i presented to my bosses - I’ve finished cleaning it up so can now share it. Please remember, it’s entirely my own work, there maybe stuff in it that is incorrect (please let me know and i’ll correct it) but it should give you a good starting block if you’re going through the same process with your bosses!

I’ve just seen that not only does shop.vodafone.co.uk use ColdFusion but it’s also using Fusebox!!!

Well after writing a 4 page justification as to why we should migrate over to ColdFusion Enterprise at work (just as CF7 releases) mainly for application fail over and all the yumminess of running multiple instances, all it took was a flash form with an accordian, next/previous buttons and some input boxes with onBlur validation to finally get the upgrade approved!

Forgot to put in my last entry that Ben mentioned a new site that will be coming soon, cfform.com related (funnily enough) to all things CFFORMish

I just got home after spending the afternoon/evening at what I can only presume was the first Official Macromedia event following CF7’s launch last Monday to the world. A great crowd (120+) turned up to the swanky surroundings of Cafe Royale on London’s Regent Street to listen to Macromedia unveil their new products.

Sean has already blogged this but Stephen Judd has just posted a cool Firefox extension that allows you to reload the Fusebox XML from a simple right click and entering your fusebox.xml password - grab the extension here and try it out.

I’ve had another flash of inspiration - now i’m not sure if this functionality is available when you install CF in MultiServer config (I install in WAR/EAR mode) and have access to the Enterprise Administrator but i thought i’d share it with you anyway.
At the moment I only have two load balanced CF6 Pro servers but there’s potential to be moving to two load balanced CF7 Enterprise servers each running 3 instances of CF. Currently when I need to make a tweak in the administrator I have to do it on both servers, with the multiple instances I’d have to make changes in 6 administrators! With the new Admin API wouldn’t it be cool if I could configure one node as a ‘master’ node and then sync it’s settings to the other instances in the cluster? Sure sounds like it would save a load of time….! Or is there a single XML config file I can copy between the servers and achieve the same thing?

It’s a real shame that even restricted Event Gateways didn’t make it into the professional version of CF7 but it’s something we’re all going to have to deal with.
We’re currently looking at adding two new load balanced CF Enterprise servers (good job we hadn’t bought them a few weeks ago!) to our infrastructure and configuring them with multiple instances etc etc - whilst on our intranet continue to use CFMX 6.1 Pro as (at the moment) we don’t see the benefit against the cost of Enterprise. This gave me a thought….
If we have CF Enterprise 7 setup for sending SMS via the neccessary providers, then if we expose the CFC (with authentication) on the Enterprise server then our CFMX 6.1 Professional can send messages via the Enterprise server and without too much hassle could probably route messages back - saving us the need for Enterprise licenses internally.
This would also make for an interesting hosted service - folk on CF Pro6/7 who want to be able to SMS but can’t afford Enterprise or the neccessary SMS subscriptions nor want to pay for the current overpriced SMS services.

Amongst all the other new CF7 delights, I’ve just noticed the nice new look LiveDocs. You get a nice view when you click the upper left corner icon - and a search option!
