XP sp2, could it be here - what’s it mean for us?

Microsoft No Comments »

A number of sites are reporting that Microsoft has at last released to manufacture it’s latest update to Windows XP, SP2. I’ve found as many sites to the contrary as i have to confirm the release so at the moment i’m still dubious. I’ve checked Windows Update and my corporate MSDN subscription but it’s not up there yet - maybe later today.

So, what’s it going to mean for developers, well quite a lot actually! ActiveX, Pop ups, Java VM, file downloads will all be affected. In fact, even on my Pocket PC I now get a “Do you want to continue loading content from this site” whenever i access a Flash site. Microsoft have an MSDN article here that explains some of what you can do and be aware of.

Fusebox Forums

Fusebox No Comments »

Apologies for the down time, we’re moving hosts and upgrading to Fusetalk 4 at the same time, this will provide us with RSS feeds (yet to be enabled) out of the box along with the ability to sync a forum to an email list - hopefully reviving the Fusebox Community spirit we had before we went ‘forum’ based.

The Topica lists are the ‘official’ Fusebox mailing lists, thanks to some wheeling and dealing by JohnQ the emails it sends out are advertisement free so if you’ve got a gmail account subscribe it to the topica lists, or if you’ve got a RSS aggregator keep an eye out for the new RSS feed links.

Cfinclude’ing across a virtual directory on Windows

ColdFusion No Comments »

Have you ever tried to cfinclude a file that’s in a virtual directory beneath your site or vice versa, cfincluding from a virtual directory to a file above your virtual directory - it’s just not going to happen if you’re using ../ type notation - probably why MM gave us cfmappings :) Read on to find out how to get round it should you need to..

my new toy…

general No Comments »

Wahey, I’ve got a new toy - the fastest production PocketPC available on the market, the Dell Axim x30 and the first PPC to be running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, with a whopping 624 Mhz of processing power in the palm of my hand! I went for the top model which comes with Wireless, Bluetooth and IR - which is great when you compare it to the top of the line HP offering which will cost you a whole heap more than the Axim.

If you’re in the market for a new pocket PC then the x30 is well worth looking at!
